Pioneiros do metal progressivo ao lado do Queensryche e Dream Theater nos anos 1980, o Fates Warning iniciou com forte influência do Iron Maiden e seu jeito americano de fazer power metal. Com entrada do vocalista Ray Alder e do baterista Mark Zonder seguiram um caminho único, atingindo o pico com o álbum Parallels de 1991. Desde 2019 entraram num hiato após seu líder Jim Matheos não ter mais planos de gravar material inédito.
